World TB Day observed across Kashmir Division | KNO

BUDGAM, MARCH 24 (KNO) : To raise public awareness about the health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis, various awareness programmes were held across the division to mark the World Tuberculosis Day-2018.

 

The theme for observing the Day worldwide was ‘Wanted Leaders for a TB-Free world- you can make history- End TB’.

At Srinagar, an awareness programme was held here at Government Dental College to spread public awareness on the tuberculosis disease and mobilize society towards its eradication.  

The function was organized by State Tuberculosis Control Society Kashmir and District Tuberculosis Centre Srinagar under the aegis of Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK), to observe the World Tuberculosis Day.

On the occasion, various speakers threw light on the tuberculosis scenario in the country and highlighted the importance of timely diagnosis and awareness to eradicate the deadly disease.

At Budgam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun Malik presided over a day-long awareness function at Sheikh-Ul-Alam hall here. 

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed on the need to create awareness about the symptoms, precautions and treatment to eliminate the disease from the society.

He said that for ensuring quality life, health is a priority and emphasized on ASHA and health workers to be leaders to motivate people to  seek medical advice if they experience any associated symptoms of the disease.

The DC further said that the health sector was improving across the district with modern equipment being installed at hospitals and health centres in Budgam.

Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr GM Dar while speaking on the occasion said that the patients suffering from TB should not feel it as a social taboo and must come forward for treatment to get rid of the disease.

At Anantnag, in connection with the World Tuberculosis Day, a rally was held here at Anantnag to raise awareness about the deadly disease and its prevention.

ADDC Anantnag, Riyaz Ahmad Sofi, who was the chief guest on the occasion, flagged off the rally.

Later, a function was held at District Tuberculosis Centre Anantnag in which speakers discussed the causes, symptoms, preventions and remedies of the Tuberculosis. They stressed upon the need to create a mass awareness among the public regarding the TB so that the disease is eradicated fully. 

At Kargil, District Health Society organized an awareness programme at Auditorium Hall here today to observe the World Tuberculosis Day.

Executive Councillor for Health, Muhammad Hussain, who was the chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the need to adopt proactive measures for controlling diseases like TB. He appealed the people to give utmost importance to sanitation. The EC also spoke about the various programmes initiated by the Hill Council to eradicate TB from the district.

At Pulwama, a function was held today at Old Hospital Pulwama to observe World Tuberculosis Day in which Deputy Commissioner Pulwama  Ghulam Mohammad Dar was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the aim of observing the Day is to raise the common public awareness about tuberculosis as well as get their efforts in order to totally eradicate the disease.

He further said that every section of the society will have to play their role to eradicate  TB. He stressed upon the Paramedical staff of the hospital to conduct a survey in far-flung areas of the district and create awareness among the common people about the disease.

Meanwhile, various functions, seminars, and debates were held in various districts of the division to observe the World Tuberculosis Day. (KNO)
